This story was brought to me in the 11th hour as a semi-complete short documentary about two men from Canada that participated in the Greenland National Qajaq Champsionships. We were originally meant to just finish the project, but in looking through the footage we discovered something completely different and decided to start from scratch. Despite it’s competition format, this event is not about the medals. This event is about a culture proudly and successfully passing traditional skills on to the next generation. We completely re-wrote the film using archival photographs and following the Greenlandic people’s lead. I could tell you more, but you can just watch the film for free below. It went on to win a few awards at paddling film festivals and such.
